I saw all these girls wearing crazy fake 3D art nails in Japan last May, and I got a mini version of it. They were amazing until they grew even longer and I stopped being able to use my hands. The Japanese are crazy obsessed with these things. Seriously. The favorite varieties are doughnut decorations, pearl, bows and lace. We met some chicks in a bar in Roppogi and talked to them for several hours. It was really, really hard and took several tries with digital and paper dictionaries. One of the first questions I got was, "Did you get your nails done yet?" Crazy.

Remember Sonya the slow loris? Here is what I learned:

I heard that they raise their arms like that, not for tickles, but as a defense mechanism. They secrete poison out of their elbows and then bring them up by their mouths. When they're going to attack, they lick their elbows and bite you. Wha??? I thought they just liked tickles. How sad. They also freak out when you keep them as pets, cause they need to be up high, swinging in trees. They could really quietly be freaking out and you wouldn't know.

My life is nearly complete. What did I chance upon this weekend at Target? The ghosts from my cereal past- Boo Berry and Frankenberry (!!!). Wowzers!!! I hadn't had them since I was little, and even then it was only a couple of times. I was so pumped, and I have to say I was not disappointed this morning. Jesus christ. I could eat it all day. They taste pretty much exactly the same, except Bo Berry is slightly better. I don't know why.

Having been born and raised in Queens, I had no idea what this was. It walked into our office yesterday and stood in the doorway, staring at me. I found out it was a Praying Mantis, after Mary picked it up and gave it a tour of the office at which point I became less afraid...until it flew onto my body.

I like it anyway. It must have come from the Gowanus, with immeasurable powers I cannot comprehend with my human brain. At least I think it must have been good luck.

Thursday evening (Fashion's Night Out to be exact), I was getting in my car off of Greenpoint Ave., when I see an animal turn the corner. I stopped to see (in case it was a cat), when lo and behold- it was a fucking raccoon! Nature's tiny robbers. I love them. They are so round and big and yet their feet are so tiny. Robbers.

I must have been thinking about it in the back of my mind all the way home, because I had a hankering to play Super Mario Bros. 3 as soon as I got in the door. Hello, RACCOON SUIT! You breathe real fast when you're on the map screen and then when you press down in a stage, you become a statue of a weird man holding a death stick.

Whilst playing, I was reminded in level 4, a.k.a "Giant World" of this stupid detail. Why is it that when you break one of the huge bricks, they just turn into 4 normal sized bricks? Why? It doesn't make sense! Shouldn't the crumbles just get bigger? I hadn't thought about this in a while, but there it is. I'm still annoyed by that. It's not like they didn't have the technology to make big crumbley graphics! Stupid raccoon.

P.s. I like when Mario is in the boot.

Let me put you in the setting: 8:58am on the way to the BQE from the LIE. You know that tunnel like strip next to the cemetary? So that is where I was, in a shit-ton of traffic, when I decide to change lanes. The SUV taxi in the lane next speeds up because he doesn't want to let me in, of course. The rest happens in quick succession: I give him the finger, he gives me the finger. I tell him to go fuck himself. He pulls out a wooden snake from his car and shakes it at me. Are you kidding me?! Yes- THAT HAPPENED. I yell, "oooh wow, fucking voodoo huh?" to which he gets furious. I proceed say, "yeah? really?" and without thinking open up the bag of cactus potting soil on the passenger seat next to me. Why was it there you ask? I put Fred (my baby cactus at work) into his new pot yesterday, so the bag is still in my car. I shove my hand into the bag, surrounding cars beeping all the while, and pull out of fistful of dirt. I throw it at his car, open windows and all. More cursing and fingers ensue for a second longer, and then we drive off.

I don't know about that guy, but it kind of made my day.

It's a magical place, and it's in Whitestone, Queens! My friend Lisa and I were very excited to go to this place since we've been looking at pictures of it online for so long now (and hearing wonder tales from our friends). I couldn't quite picture what it would actually be like, however. What it was like was an awesome cult from the future, complete with sherbet-colored uniforms and a buffet. Needless to say the place was awesome. The bade pools massaged all parts of your body with the touch of a button, and the saunas were themed by color/temperature and gem types?! There were a lot of crystals and gems...and people lying on the ground...and naked women...My favorite feature is not having to carry anything with you ever. You have these fake watch things that control everything (lockers). You even pay for all your food with them, which made me feel like I was in college again with my meal card.

N.A.S.A. with special guests (monsters, aliens and hot chicks). I went to see N.A.S.A. last night at the Bowery Ballroom - a-m-a-z-i-n-g. Fat Lip from Pharcyde was there and my little 11 year old girl dreams came true when he sang "Passin' Me By". The night was basically a dancing frenzy, culminating in the crowd storming the stage to dance their asses off. What else can I say? That shit was dope.

I guess Frank Black had the right idea. I went on Craiglist and found an ad for an old Walkman ($10). I grabbed my friend Diana, in case the guy turned out to be a psycho killer, and headed over to the corner of 82nd and Roosevelt in Jackson Heights. She was like, "Yeah this would be a great place to kidnap someone with like 1,000 eyewitnesses, dumbass." And I was like, "Um, yeah it would be a good place to kidnap someone, because there would be so much commotion no one would know what the hell was going on." Anyway, Mr. Ronald McDonald hair/Jamaica t-shirt rolls up and hands over this Walkman, complete with pristine earbuds and a new pack of batteries. He assured me that it was in working condition, and when I checked it at home with my 6th-grade cassette single ("Bump-N-Grind" by R. Kelly) I knew it was perfect.

Everything is better with lightning bolts, I guess.

No, it's not an iphone. It's the LG EnV Touch and it's better than my old phone so far. My favorite thing about getting the phone this weekend is that I learned what a QWERTY keypad is, because that is that best word ever.

pros: Touch screen is easy to use and the qwerty keypad is awesome. Big screen and the camera is 3.2 megapixels. You can film things and listen to music/internet/gps/whatever.

con: It's not an iphone.

I know, it's been so long since I've posted but I was in Japan (pictures soon and that is a promise) and then when I got back I was busy with the Renegade Craft Fair! It was so awesome, and thanks to everyone who came out to support both me and Matt. Our booth name was 4 different names, so sorry for the confusion. V+M, M+V, Matt and Veronica, Veronica and Matt. We are all those things in any order or combination or what have you.

We were opening an etsy shop to sell the remainder of our merchandise, but those plans are up in the air for the time being. Anyone who wants any of that stuff can contact either me or Matt. Meanwhile I am trying to replensih my own etsy shop, and of course, enjoy the summer!

Tonight I am lucky enough to be going to a seder, as I usually do, at the home of some beloved friends. There will be a feast of yummies, including the ever-puzzling gefilte fish. I still don't really know what it is made of (and I certainly don't take extra jelly), but I like it. I really like it. In my mind I imagine a school of gefilte fish swimming around in its ambiguously-shaped, potato-colored glory.
